Catherine Mackey, affectionately known as “Cat,” was the first born on November 10, 1939, to the Late Edmond Bostick and Late Maybell Wright Bostick in Savannah, Georgia. In her early childhood years, she moved to Miami, Florida, where she accepted Christ and became a member of the Brownsville Missionary Baptist Church and Greater New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church.
She attended school in the Miami Dade County Public School System, graduating from Miami Northwestern Senior High School in 1957. Shortly thereafter, she continued her education and became a licensed cosmetologist. In addition to cosmetology, she worked as a nurse’s aide at Jackson Memorial Hospital. Within a few years, she advanced her career to Ward Clerk and continued her employment at Mount Sinai Hospital, Villa Maria Nursing Center and Southshore Hospital where she was a loyal and dedicated employee.
In 1965, she was joined in holy matrimony with Lawrence Mackey and of that union they were blessed with a beautiful daughter Twyla Bostick.
Catherine was devoted to her family and friends and always showed her love for others. She became very active with Alumni Class of ‘57 and would prepare home cooked meals and sweet treats as a token of love. Catherine was a trend setter and absolutely loved, loved, loved to, shop in the outlet malls. Her fashionable styles was enjoyed by all.
Upon retirement, Catherine kept busy and became a caregiver for friends convalescing at home until she, herself, needed care. Catherine spent the past few years residing at Prestige Care in Aventura. She was the one who brought laughter and everyone adored her and loved to see her smile. On Monday, February 17, 2020, Catherine heard the voice of Jesus say, “Come unto me thou weary one and I will give you rest.”
She is survived by: The Loving and Caring Lawrence Mackey, a devoted daughter - Twyla Davis (David); two grandchildren, Lakisha Phillips (Anthony) and Dannika Phillips (Darrell); two wonderful grandsons: Andre James, Jr. and Darrell Hester, Jr.; two sisters, Elizabeth Mackey and Cecilia Richardson, one brother: Johnny Bostick and a host of loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and sorrowful family and friends.
