Life and Legacy
Freenis Sample Thompson’s journey began on May 16, 1950. When she was born to her loving parents Otis and Eddie Mae Sample in Miami, Florida. She was raised in Liberty City and later moved to Miami Gardens. Her parents had strong Christian values, her father a minister and mother played piano for many choirs in the Miami area. Both parents preceded her in death. Her love for the Lord led her to Total Change and Empowerment Ministries under the leadership of Bishop Curtis R. Brown and later with Dr. Gayle Snead.
Freenis received her formal education in Miami Dade Public Schools attending Brownsville Junior, Miami Jackson and graduating Miami Carol City Senior High, class of 1968.
She met and married Dennis Alston, from this union two sons were born. Courtney and Asagai Alston. After high school she worked for many years as an operator with Southern Bell. Freenis joined Social Security Administration as a claim representative. She then met and married James Thompson in 1990.
Freenis’s life and legacy concluded when God’s masterful work was done on November 16, 2017at 5:15pm. She passed away peacefully when she heard the voice of Jesus say,” Well done, thou good and faithful servant.” She leaves love and cherished memories to her Husband James Thompson {Jimmy), Step father Eddie Harris, her sons Courtney, Asagai, Lemar, Lavar, and Terell; Sisters Judy, Freeda, Cheryll and Ara; Sister in law Jackie(Philip); Brother in Laws, Eddie, Daryl, Robert and Curtis, Grand- children; AhShunti, Dreese, Caleesa, Lama, Cheyenne, Jeremiah, Mekhi, Starr, Asagai Jr., Treylesia, Marqusia, Victor, Krystal, Shamya and Laila; Great Grans; Nathaniel, Geneva and Jervon Jr. Aunts, Uncles, devoted nieces, nephews, cousins, church members and long time friends.
